The top image is a final layout of the flutes boat in the game.

The second and third image are a inside look into what the player would see when controlling the boat.

Polynesian Islands 3D

These are basic models of the land mass for the islands. The islands ares a base model for the 3D final design. I looked at many different Polynesian and there shape and altitudes. The top two pictures are of all the islands which would be similar to the map diagram for when the player wants to view the map size. The rest are of the islands closer up to show structure and design.

2D Boat Design

This is a boat diagram I created for the traveling purpose and a possible companion in the game. We knew we wanted the main protagonist to be able to get around in the game but with Polynesia and all its islands the main solution was to have a boat to travel from island to island. When we first decided we wanted a boat I took the job role in designing it. I looked at a couple of Polynesian boats from the internet and reference photos and came up with two initial ideas for what I wanted it to look like. The first idea was to have a large surface for the deck and two long hulls underneath with a tall wide sail. The other was to have a simple rowing boat but with a extended ski on the left side, a bit like training wheels for a boat. This would have the same sail as the first boat.

Villager 2D

This is a drawing I have done for a design for a simple villager who inhabit multiple islands in our game and are more friend than foe. I have used inspiration from the reference photos I took to create this draft of the simple villager. I looked at clothes, accessories and tattoo's these people had in the early 18th century.

Polynesian Boat Hut

This is another basic model of a Polynesian hut I have modeled and textures for our game for the 3D design of the game. I believe they used these types of huts to cover up supplies like wood and food from rain. But i also think they used these types of huts for covering up boats when arriving onto the island. I used Maya and Photoshop. I used my reference photos to use inspiration to create this piece of work.

Level Design 2D

These are simple sketches I have done to get a rough idea and outline on to paper for the design of the islands. I have looked at various images in the internet to take small amounts of inspiration to create these drawings of the design of the vast open map in our game.

Polynesian Hut

This is a basic model and texture for a small village hut based in our game. I modeled and textured it using Maya and Photoshop. This is just a small try out and basic understand of me and my team mates want in this game. I have used my reference photos to use as inspiration.

Design

Design

I have completed a couple of designs on paper for the enviroment and some basic models in 3D for the islands. I have been looking at mine and my team-mates research to come up with some original designs and layouts of how I think the enviroment should turn out. Ive been looking at images mostly from google images to give me some inspiration and pictures from the power point presentation my team mates made to help understand the type of style we wanted for this game. Below is a picture from a mood board from the presentation.

Another slide we did was to do with some of the character designs. This is another mood board to do with secondary pieces of research.
We wanted a good and bad witch doctor which is involved with the concpet and idea of our game. We also wanted to add a little history in to the game by adding european colonails and having them invade the group of islands in Polynesia which France did in the 1800's.

A link to where I got my information about the french invading Polynesia.

Game Concept

Game Concept

After we went to the sainburys centre at the UEA and seeing lots of amazing artifacts and art pieces we went towards a polynesian flute. We then went off and came up with a game concept and design and planned our game from ideas pitched with each other. All my team-mates reasearched designs and more and more ideas and adding these to our game concept using the flute and what research they had done. I went to New York and went to the Museum Of Natural History and did some research on Polynesia and came back with loyss of pictures and contenet and information about the Polynesian islands.

After showing the powerpoint presentation with what work and reasearch we have done as a group to George we got good feed back and he let us know that we are on the right track but the concepts need to be done and more information about the type of game is needed i.e. which console and age we want our game to target.

After a group meeting and getting the the concept down and final we have gone off into seperate subjects and diffferent sectors of the designing process. I am following the 2D enviroment concepts and some 3D design. I also have the responsiblilty of designing the villagers in the game.
